Founded in 1970 to help promote foreign trade, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) is the foremost non-profit trade promotion organization in Taiwan. Jointly sponsored by the government, industry associations, and several commercial organizations, TAITRA assists Taiwan businesses and manufacturers with reinforcing their international competitiveness and in coping with the challenges they face in foreign markets.
Since its establishment, TAITRA has developed a well-coordinated trade promotion and information network composed of over 1,200 trained specialists stationed at its headquarters in Taipei, in four local branch offices in Hsinchu, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung, as well as in over 60 representative offices around the world.
In association with its sister organizations, the Taiwan Trade Center, Inc. (TTC) and the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC), TAITRA continues to do everything possible to adapt its trade promotion strategies to the changing international trends and conditions. TAITRA's major functions include Market Development, Strategic Marketing, Trade information Services, Exhibitions, Convention Services, Trade Education, and Taiwan Trade (an e-Trading Hub Service)
