The ZAE Bayern works at the interface between evidence-based basic research and applied industrial research. Each year, the Institute carries out a large number of projects with industry, from SMEs to large corporations, as well as with universities and other research partners. The main research areas at the ZAE Bayern target how to boost the use of renewable energy and the increase of energy efficiency. The research topics at the Institute are divided into the following main topics: Photovoltaics, energy storage, energy optimized buildings, energy efficient processes,
and cross-cutting themes: nanomaterials, thermal physics and sensors, systems engineering modeling.
The cross-linking of the individual focuses and the networking within the value chain allow the ZAE Bayern to provide valuable solutions to increase energy efficiency and increase use of renewable energy.
